| Purse seining is one of the most advanced types of fishing.Purse seines are used to encircle or fence in a school of fish and are pursed at the bottom-roughly like the old-fashioned money bag was pursed-preventing fish form escaping downward.The species of fish suitable for purse seine are those on or near the surface,such as sardine,anchovie,pilchard,tuna,macerel-pike,cod,capelin etc. The net is supended form the surface,allowing it to develop into a circular form.Since the net must surround the fish without delay,it should be strong,heavy enough to sink quickly,stand well against abrasion when rubbed on the boat side or on the machines on deck. |
